Content
This wide-ranging three-day workshop compares the key management frameworks for controlling risk in an IT development environment, and introduces a ‘framework for frameworks’ for aligning these with your own organisation’s needs.
Content
The workshop introduces IT development risk management and answers the question “Why focus on IT development risk?”. It looks at risks, issues and consequences; mitigation strategies; risk management models and principles, and examines available IT risk management frameworks.
It then focuses on categories of risk and the IT development risk landscape, proposing a ‘framework of frameworks’ for assessing your organisation’s needs. The main frameworks examined are:
- PRINCE2
- MSP
- CMMI
- TMM
Finally it looks at addressing risk in your business / industry, managing change, and at software tool support, allowing participants to think seriously about their next steps.
Practical experience:
The workshop uses class, group and individual exercises, and encourages sharing of experiences between all those involved.
In the main case study, which runs through the three days, participants will select and use one of the CMMI process areas as a tool to manage risk in a class exercise based on issues in their own industry.
Benefits of Attending
By the end of the workshop you will:
- understand the potential risks that affect IT development
- appreciate the risk management frameworks that may be adopted
- know where to find advice and information on managing IT development risk
- be able to assess your organisation’s need for an IT development risk management framework
- shortlist potential solutions.
Why this course?
This course is run by a trainer who has many years of practicing what he is preaching. Our training uses a workshop format where ideas are presented and discussed, and practiced in breakout sessions
Many courses aimed at IT professionals encourage the idea that the panacea for change is IT. Precious little time is spent understanding the underlying process and the improvements that can be made without IT, and the care needed to implement selected solution. This course focuses precisely on the management and control activities that you can put in place to achieve success.
Prerequisite
A good working knowledge of the IT development environment is a useful background.
