This in-depth yet practical course will promote process mapping excellence in the context of business transformation and improvement initiatives, and of transformation initiatives such as BPM, SOA and Six Sigma.
Content
The workshop will discuss the role of process mapping in different scenarios and indicate how it contributes to driving and embedding business change. Participants will have an opportunity to improve a process in a class exercise based on a typical business activity.
It introduces process mapping in its business context and asks “Why do we need processes?” before discussing modelling and mapping, process variation and conformity, process mapping in a BPM, SOA and Six Sigma world, levels of process, and identifying level 1 processes.
Sessions cover the following topics:
- How to map processes
- Why map processes
- What to model
- Mapping current (‘as-is’) processes
- Software tool support
- Process improvement Issues and opportunities
- Problem solving
- Mapping future (‘to-be’) processes
The workshop uses class, group and individual exercises, and encourages sharing of experiences between all those involved.
In the main case study, which runs through the two days, participants will work in groups to map an ‘as-is’ process, identify risks, issues and opportunities, run a ‘problem solve’ for a key issue area, and map the ‘to-be’ process.
