Target Audience

This qualification is aimed at those who are new to the profession, those who want to move into the profession and those who have transferred into the profession as, say, internal consultants.

As it leads to an internationally recognised qualification it could give students a differentiator when applying for consulting jobs.

Content

To attain the internationally-recognised Certificate in Management Consulting Essentials (CMCE), awarded by the Institute of Business Consulting in conjunction with the Chartered Management Institute. The Chartered Management Institute is recognised by Royal Charter as the professional body for managers and management development. The CMCE is the first step in becoming qualified as a Certified Management Consultant and is the only qualification of its type in the UK.

 The CMCE Syllabus published by IBC contains six key areas:

  • The consultancy role 
  • The consultancy cycle
  • The client relationship 
  • Communication for consultants 
  • Effective project delivery 
  • Structured knowledge, research & analysis

The Certificate requires 45 guided learning hours which will be delivered over four days (but ask about being delivered in flexible format such as block release, part-time or distance learning.

There are 10 training modules:

  • Being a consultant
  • Consultancy cycle
  • Project planning;
  • Interviewing skills;
  • Analysis & diagnosis;
  • Process mapping
  • Change management
  • Communication;
  • Managing meetings
  • Client management

In addition, there is a 3000-word written assignment usually based on the student’s experience in implementing their new skills . This assignment is externally marked and must be completed within one year of starting the programme. As part of this training individual coaching is provided to help with the assignment.

Please note that all the trainers on this course are Fellows of the IBC and therefore very experienced consultants as well as profficient trainers and coaches.
